Speaking at the ceremony President called upon all people to be united to develop the country in the manner they united to destroy LTTE and pointed out that action against the Executive was democracy and all people must respect the judiciary and the rule of law in the country.
Sri Lanka gained its Independence in 1948 from British rulers after many sacrifices. Since then people in the country lived in peace and harmony until LTTE came up with the idea of a separate state paving the way for another war to begin which was totally different from the ones which Sri Lankan folks had during the regimes of Portuguese, Dutch and British.
However, it is glad to say, today the country is free from foreign and local powers who were eying on Sri Lanka.
